Supporting Our Troops
It is an honor to be able to give back to the servicemen and women who fight for our country and our freedom. George Group works with the organizations listed below to help Wounded Warriors and their families in their time of need.
The Pentagon Federal Credit Union Foundation
The Pentagon Federal Credit Union Foundation assists military personnel and their families who face financial issues due to predatory lending and extends compassion and a helping hand to those wounded in the war on terrorism. The Foundation's goal, in partnership with the donor community, is to ensure that those who are devoting their lives to the defense of our country have the skills and resources they need to secure a sound financial future for themselves and their families. www.pentagonfoundation.org
Through our relationship with the George Washington Chapter of AUSA, George Group has been involved in several projects with The Pentagon Federal Credit Union Foundation, particularly geared towards helping the wounded soldiers and their families.
- The Walter Reed Army Medical Command Laptop Project: Private industry and various military support organizations joined together to provide wireless laptop computers for 30 families at Walter Reed to use during their stay. This allows them to communicate with their unit members back in Iraq, research job opportunities, pursue VA benefits, or telecommute to work. The program has been extended to other Fisher House facilities as well.
- Night of Heroes: A black tie gala and silent auction to raise funds to support our wounded military personnel and financial programs for military families. Two awards are presented, The American Hero Award and the Military Hero Award.
- WRAMC Christmas Party: For the past 2 years, the Foundation has partnered with AUSA and ASMC to sponsor a holiday party for the wounded soldiers and marines and their families at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Santa was there to the delight of the children of the wounded, listening to Christmas wishes and handing out toys, games, dolls and stuffed animals. Everyone was treated to thank-you gifts, along with punch and cake donated by Chandler's Bakery in Charlottesville, Virginia. The US Army Strolling Strings hit just the right festive note for the crowd.
The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund
The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund provides financial assistance to Marines injured in combat and in training, to other service members injured while in direct support of Marine units, and to their families to help defray the expenses incurred during hospitalization, rehabilitation, and recovery. Their goal is to alleviate the financial burden placed on the family so that their focus can be on their loved one's recovery.
The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund works closely with the Marine Liaison Offices and the staff of military and Veteran's Affairs hospitals nationwide, to identify injured Marines in need of assistance. Most grants are awarded within 72 hours of approval. The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. www.semperfifund.org
Fisher House Foundation
Fisher House™ Foundation donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times - during hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury. There is at least one Fisher House™ at every major military medical center to assist families in need and to ensure that they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive environment. The houses can accommodate 16 to 40 family members. They feature a common kitchen, spacious dining room, an inviting living room with library and toys for children, and laundry facilities. Annually, the Fisher House™ program serves more than 8,500 families, and have made available more than two million days of lodging to family members since the program originated in 1990. www.fisherhouse.org
